An Ecosystem
For Nature &
Community
24 miles long. 13 miles wide. One of the largest natural freshwater lakes west of the Mississippi. Explore it, protect it, and make it yours.
The Three Pillars of Utah Lake Management
The Utah Lake Authority's management plan is built on three interconnected priorities. Every program, project, and event we run traces back to these foundations.
Thriving Ecosystems
We protect and enhance Utah Lake's natural balance. From invasive carp management to native plant restoration, every ecological decision is made with future generations in mind. Home to 18 fish species, including the threatened June Sucker, the lake is a living system that requires active stewardship.
Vibrant Communities
Utah Lake is not just a body of water. It is the center of our region's outdoor life. We develop programs, events, and spaces where families, schools, volunteers, and neighbors connect around a shared resource. The Adopt-a-Shoreline program and planting parties are community in action.
World-Class Recreation
Swimming, kayaking, waterskiing, paddleboarding, fishing, hunting, and ice skating. Utah Lake offers year-round recreation with 27 public access points serving every ability level. We maintain, expand, and improve those access points so the lake stays open to everyone.
One of Utah's Most Important Natural Resources
Utah Lake is 24 miles long and 13 miles wide, making it one of the largest natural freshwater lakes west of the Mississippi River. The surface area supports camping, fishing, boating, and picnicking in summer, and hunting, ice fishing, and ice skating in fall and winter.
The lake is home to 18 species of fish, including the threatened June Sucker. Carp, introduced in the 1880s, have significantly disrupted the native vegetation on the lake floor, affecting sediment levels and water clarity. Addressing that ecological challenge is central to our restoration work.
