Paddle With Care
Every May, Utah Lake kicks off Water Safety Awareness Month with Paddle With Care: a day that brings the community together to remember those we've lost, honor those who keep us safe, and learn how to stay safer on the lake.
Paddlers cross Utah Lake by kayak, canoe, or paddleboard in memory of those who have lost their lives on the water, including Priscilla Bienkowski and Sophia Hernandez, two friends who lost their lives at Utah Lake in 2020. Back at the marina, everyone is welcome to enjoy educational booths from local organizations, food trucks, and games for a fun, family-friendly afternoon. No paddle required!
Here's how the day works: Paddlers check in at American Fork Marina, board a shuttle to Vineyard Beach, and paddle back to the marina where the celebration awaits.
As part of the day, we'll be fundraising for the Utah Lake Life Jacket Loaner Program, an initiative built in partnership with the Bienkowski and Hernandez families to make life jackets more accessible at the lake.
Paddle with Care 2026
- Who: We welcome all paddle sport enthusiasts! Kayak, paddleboard, canoe, or anything else non-motorized. The marina celebration is open to everyone.
- Where: American Fork Marina. Paddlers will check in at the marina and shuttle to Vineyard Beach to begin the paddle back.
- When: May 16th, 2026. Check-in begins at 8 AM. Launch begins at 9 AM. Festivities will begin at 9:30 AM and go until after paddlers reach the endpoint around 12 PM.
Stay Safe. This event is all about safety! Search and Rescue will be there every step of the way. We expect each paddler to provide their own personal water craft (paddle board, kayak or canoe) and gear, INCLUDING safety gear. We will provide safety training to all paddlers before launch and will have boats along the paddle route for monitoring and resting points for paddlers.

To participate in the paddling portion of this event, all paddlers must register through the form linked below. Paddlers are encouraged to contribute donations for the event. More information is provided in the registration form.

Participants of the paddle portion must be 18 or older. The celebration at the marina is open to all ages and will be a family-friendly environment.
No! If paddling isn't your thing, join us for the celebration at 9:30 AM. There will be games, food, education booths, and activities going on until 12 PM. If you have a friend or relative who will be paddling, don't worry! They will join you at the celebration as soon as they complete the route.
Yes, should you choose to participate in the paddle portion, you will be required to provide all your own gear and equipment. This includes safety equipment like a life jacket.
